University Park Campus
The University Park campus, home to USC's College of Letters, Arts and Sciences,
the Graduate School, and 15 of the university's 17 professional schools, is located
three miles south of downtown Los Angeles, adjacent to the museums and sports facilities
of historic Exposition Park. The 226-acre campus is rich with architectural history
and home to a vibrant cultural community as well as a strong academic environment.
Within its urban setting, the University Park campus maintains a lush, parklike
atmosphere. McCarthy Quad is a beautifully landscaped green area connecting Doheny
Memorial Library with Leavey Library, and another expanse of green, John Argue Plaza,
surrounds Widney Alumni House – the university's oldest building and a California
Historic Landmark. The recently remodeled Bovard Auditorium joins the Alfred Newman
Recital Hall in providing world-class concert venues for USC Thornton School of
Music faculty, students and invited guest performers. The Thornton School is the
most active producer of live music performances in Los Angeles, offering more than
500 concerts and recitals a year. The USC Fisher Gallery, the first museum established
in Los Angeles devoted exclusively to fine art, offers exhibitions ranging from
antiquities to works by Old Masters to contemporary art by local, national and international
artists.
The adjacent Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is home to Trojan football, and the campus
is alive with pre-game picnics and other festivities during most fall weekends.
The baseball team plays in storied Dedeaux Field, named in honor of USC's legendary
baseball coach, Rod Dedeaux. The Galen Center, a new arena and campus events center
opened in fall 2006, provides venues for men's and women's basketball and volleyball
teams.
